Travel to and from Utah today is far beyond anything the Mormon pioneers or builders of the first transcontinental railroad could have imagined. Its modern transportation links provide businesses and residents with convenient, immediate access to the rest of the nation and the world.
Salt Lake City International Airport, only seven miles from downtown Salt Lake City, is served by 10 major and regional airlines. The largest airport in the state, it is a regional hub for Delta Airlines.
Interstate Highway 80, which stretches from the East Coast to San Francisco, passes through Salt Lake City, as does Interstate Highway 15 which runs north and south. Interstate Highway 70 from Denver joins I-15 in central Utah, and Interstate Highway 84 branches off I-80 near Salt Lake City for Boise, Idaho, and Portland, Oregon.
Today Utah is served by 10 railroad lines, including the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Amtrak rail passenger trains traveling between San Francisco and Chicago serve Salt Lake City.
